Enugu, also nicknamed the Coal City or 042, was formally part of the old Anambra State, with Enugu town as its capital. Enugu has a total landmass of 7.161km square (2,765 sq mi).

Enugu Town largely plays host to mainly civil servants owing to its former status as the seat of power for the premier of the old Eastern Region in the first republic. This gave it its reputation as the most serene and peaceful state in the southeast.

Before the discovery and exploration of oil in Nigeria, Enugu contributed majorly to the GDP of the country owing to its high concentration of coal, hence the nickname: Coal City.

In art and culture, Enugu is very rich in lifestyle, with different foods like Okpa, Abacha, and palm wine peculiar to them.

In entertainment, it has given us superstars like Phyno, Flavour, Zoro, Pete Edochie, Nkem Owoh, and Patience Ozokwor to mention a few.

For sights and sounds, it boasts of places of nature like the Ngwo Pine Forest, Nike Lake, Ezeagu cave and waterfall, and the National Museum of Unity amongst others.

It also boasts of many institutions of higher learning, like the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus (UNEC) and the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) top of the list.

National Museum of Unity Enugu:

The National Museum of Unity Enugu is located in GRA Enugu along Abakaliki road, near Ogui junction and the Old Governor’s Lodge. The museum is replete with rich historical artifacts, models, statues and works of art from various parts of the country.

Ogbagada Waterfall

Ogbagada waterfall popularly known as Ezeagu waterfall is one of the most popular waterfalls in Enugu, located within the Ezeagu tourist complex in Obinofia Ndiuno, the Ezeagu waterfall is at the lower end of the Okpoku Spring, a cold and worm spot with the Ogbagada river.

Ngwo Cave and Waterfall

Ngwo Waterfall is located in Ngwo Enugu State. This enchanting waterfall dropping down from a small opening at the roof of the Ngwo cave forming a shallow pool at the cave floor and flows out as a small stream has over the year became a top tourist destination in Enugu.

Iheneke Lake

Located in Obinofia Ndiuno in Ezeagu local Government area of  Enugu state. Iheneke is a tropical lake with maximum density during the warmest season. During the rainy season, the lake is said cools and then cools further as harmattan advances. Iheneke is the second most visited lake in Enugu state after the nike lake, and a very lovely place to rest and relaxation.

Akwuke Sand Beach

In recent time, the forest reserve Okpara square and it environs has become top spot for residents of the city who either go to the forest for picnic, photoshoot or relaxation.

Unity Park Enugu

The Unity Park, formerly known as Forest Reserve, located adjacent to the popular Michael

Okpara Square, Independence Layout, Enugu is one of the many attractions within the city of Enugu. The park servers as a place for relaxation and recreation, beautified with art works such as an artificial water pond and a monumental roaring lion of about 30ft high and 60ft wide.

Nike Lake Enugu

Nike Lake is the most popular lake in Enugu state and one of the most popular in Nigeria, Located in the town of Nike in Enugu East Local Government area of Enugu State.
